Why we believe in Chiropractic Services for Dogs:
Years ago, we had an Aussie named Dizzy who injured herself and tore her caudal ligament. We sought out the best surgeons and physiotherapists. Living in London at the time, we drove to Essex Animal Hospital for underwater treadmill, acupuncture and chiropractic.
The amazing thing about alternative therapies in dogs is that there is no placebo affect. They can’t be told that those little needles or the adjustment will make them feel better.
It either works or it doesn’t.
You see improvements or you don’t.
With a background in the sciences, this means a lot to me. I had never seen a chiropractor at that point for myself and I was skeptical. However a friend told me it made the world of difference for her dogs and I decided it was worth a try.
Months of recovery and favouring her leg had led to Dizzy’s gait being off. She walked with what I thought would be a permanent limp.
It wasn’t permanent though. After her first chiropractic adjustment, the limp and improved to a mild hitch. After the second treatment, the hitch was gone. I was convinced.
With active dogs who hike, run in the forest, play frisbee, wrestle, train in agility, chiropractic became a regular part of their health maintenance. When it comes to most injuries, prevention is the best medicine. Part of that prevention is making sure that our dogs are not playing hard with something that is sore. It’s when they are compensating for soreness or there is inflammation because of a pull that they are most likely to do serious damage.
So when I notice one of our dogs is stiff, taking longer than usual to get up, gaiting funny or choosing not to jump or run like usual, I put a call in to see Dr. Gloria. It’s amazing to see the improvements. As our dogs age, her contribution to their health is so important. As their joints get stiff or sore, she is able to make sure they are as comfortable as possible.
